Deep Sea Creatures
I had an oportunity to illustrate some amazing marine animals living in the mysterious depths of the oceans. The illustrations were design for an educational children's book.
I would like to briefly tell you on what species I was working on.
All aboard!
Let's start just below the water's surface, where sun's rays are still visible. You can find there beautiful and colorful species which use their appearance to hide or to disturb predators.
Cephalopods
Different colors, shapes, sizes and even translucency of their skin.
These are all the features that make the representatives of this group so different from each other. Some of them are small and cute fellows while the other onces are so spooky that sailors based legends on their apperance.
Straight out of your nightmares
If you are looking for horror inspiration, you can also find it in the depth.
Tough guys
Some of the animals to bet on "toughness" at roulette called evolution.
Hard armor, a few spikes here and there, resistance to extreme temperatures and toxic fumes are necessary to make life easier when you habitat unfriendly places.

Turn on the lights
There are predators that have specialized in hunting with the use of the light. Some of them use it to lure their victims, while others perfectly capture the remnants of the light and use it to facilitate their hunt.
Muddy mood
Even at the very bottom of the world's deepest oceans, where the pressure is over 1000 times greater than the one we live on and the landscapes very often looks like deserts, there will be creatures, that have adapted to life in such hostile conditions.
Last but not least
These little ocean dwellers are somewhat unlucky because they are food for the mass of sea creatures higher up the food chain. Nevertheless, they are a key element of the marine ecosystem without, which life in the ocean wouldn't be so rich and diverese.
Thank you for watching!
